Con base en pruebas sólidas, los exámenes de detección del cáncer colorrectal (CCR) reducen la mortalidad por esta enfermedad, pero hay muy pocos datos que indiquen que reduzcan la mortalidad por todas las causas, quizá debido a un aumento que se observa en otras causas de muerte.
