NIAID strategic plan details COVID-19 research priorities
NIH, April 23, 2020
NIH, April 23, 2020
This include four key priorities. The first involves improving fundamental knowledge of virus including studies to characterize the virus and better understand how it causes infection and disease. This includes natural history, transmission studies to determine why some individuals experience mild symptoms while others become critically ill.
The impact of genomics on precision public health
Call for Papers, Genome Medicine, April 22, 2020
Call for Papers, Genome Medicine, April 22, 2020
Human and pathogen genomics are at the leading edge of the application of new technologies to public health practice. Research efforts in this area are contributing to a new era of 'precision public health', an emerging multidisciplinary field that uses genomics, other big data and artificial intelligence to improve population health.
Identification of super-transmitters of SARS-CoV-2

X Yang et al, MEDRXIV, April 23, 2020
Four genetic clusters defined as Super-transmitters (STs) were found to become dominant and were responsible for the major outbreaks in various countries.
Population genomics insights into the recent evolution of SARS-CoV-2

M Vasilarou et al, BIORXIV, April 23, 2020
In this study, we used population genetics analysis to infer the mutation rate and plausible recombination events that may have contributed to the evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Furthermore, we localized targets of recent and strong positive selection.
