we analyzed the sequences of 30,983 complete genomes from 80 countries from December 24, 2019 to May 13, 2020, and compared them to the reference genome. Our analysis revealed the presence of 3,206 variant sites compared to the reference Wuhan-Hu-1 genome, with a distribution that is largely uniform over all continents.
This study shows that multiple variants of SARS-CoV-2 are circulating in the Chicago area that differ in their relative viral loads in patient upper airways. These data suggest that differences in virus genotype impact viral load and may in turn influence viral transmission and spread.
This mendelian randomization study used the UK biobank to investigate the role of several traits with COVID-19 severity. The findings support a causal effect of elevated BMI and smoking on risk of sepsis and severe covid-19. Clinical and public health interventions targeting obesity and smoking are likely to reduce sepsis and covid-19 related morbidity,
