Genetics of Prostate Cancer (PDQ®)–Health Professional Version
Changes to This Summary (12/18/2018)
The PDQ cancer information summaries are reviewed regularly and updated as new information becomes available. This section describes the latest changes made to this summary as of the date above.
Updated National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Genetic/Familial High-Risk Assessment: Breast and Ovarian as reference 36.
Added text to state that a study from the Swedish Family Cancer Database reported an increased risk of the following cancers in families where multiple members had a prostate cancer diagnosis: myeloma, kidney cancer, nonthyroid endocrine tumors, melanoma, nervous system tumors, and female breast cancer (cited Frank et al. as reference 53). It remains to be determined whether these associations are from a common genetic basis, shared environment, or a combination of factors.
This section was renamed from Genes With Potential Clinical Relevance in Prostate Cancer Risk, comprehensively reviewed, and extensively revised.
This section was renamed from Interventions in Familial Prostate Cancer.
Updated NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology: Prostate Cancer Early Detection and NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology: Genetic/Familial High-Risk Assessment: Breast and Ovarian as references 11 and 12, respectively.
