Energy drinks
Did you know that next to multivitamins, energy drinks are the most popular dietary supplements among American teens and young adults?

There are some important safety concerns about these popular products.

Caffeine is a major ingredient in energy drinks. Caffeine use may be associated with anxiety, sleep problems, digestive problems, and dehydration. Large amounts of caffeine may cause serious heart and blood vessel problems.

Energy drinks also contain added sugar. A single 16-oz. container of an energy drink may contain more added sugar than is recommended for an entire day.

Combining energy drinks with alcohol may pose special risks. People who combine caffeine with alcohol may feel less intoxicated, but their motor coordination and reaction time may be just as impaired as it would have been without caffeine.
