Five years ago, Charles Leblow, a retiree in California, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He says, "I was just flabbergasted by the diagnosis."
Leblow soon learned that Parkinson's is different for everyone. There are no cookie cutter cases. That's why The Michael J. Fox Foundation launched Fox Insight, an online clinical study, to learn about Parkinson's from the experts -- patients and their loved ones.
The study asks questions about health, medical history and daily life. And through a collaboration with consumer genetics company 23andMe, Fox Insight participants with Parkinson's can access the 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service at no cost. Adding genetic information to the study can provide scientists with a better understanding of the disease, which informs the development of new treatments.
For Leblow, participating in the Fox Insight study for nearly three years has a larger purpose -- to help scientific advancement of research on Parkinson's disease.
