Researchers receive grant to optimize CHD babies' brain development Children’s National researchers have been awarded a $2.5 million, three-year grant from the NIH to study an innovative treatment to optimize brain development in babies with CHD after cardiac surgery. Understanding low cardiac output after surgery Researchers at Children's National are working to identify when and how low cardiac output occurs, pinpoint the physical hallmarks of this condition and use that information to prevent long term damage and complications after surgery. In HIE lower heart rate variability signals stressed newborns In newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), lower heart rate variability correlates with autonomic manifestations of stress shortly after birth, underscoring the value of this biomarker, according to research done at Children’s National. Children’s National and Johnson & Johnson launch JLABS In April, Children’s National and Johnson & Johnson Innovation LLC announced a collaboration to launch JLABS @ Washington, DC, a 32,000-square foot facility that will be located at the new Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus.
