Rachel Callander
|
Rachel Callander, speaker, trainer, author and award-winning photographer, regularly engages with healthcare professionals to challenge the language used in discussions of diagnosis and treatment. In her keynote, Rachel will speak about Rising Above: Using Empowering Language in Health Care and describe how changes in language can help families and medical professionals realize understanding, reassurance and support.

Anthony Philippakis
|
Anthony Philippakis, MD, PhD, is the Chief Data Officer and Institute Scientist at the Broad Institute and a cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he cares for patients with rare, genetic, cardiovascular diseases. As a panelist in a breakout session on Patients Driving Advances: From Research to Therapy, he will speak about how patients can and should be powerful partners and drivers in the development of new treatments.

Dan Tangle
|
Dan Tagle, MD, PhD, is the Associate Director and Acting Deputy Director at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). He has authored more than 150 scientific publications and garnered numerous awards and patents. As part of a panel on the topic of Rare Research Resources: Animal Models and 3D-Engineered Tissues, Dan will speak about the use of “tissue on a chip” or 3D tissues in research and drug development.

Allison Fine
|
Allison Fine, MSW, LICSW, is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Chronic Illness where she provides counseling for those who live with ongoing health challenges and deal with anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss. Allison will speak to Understanding the Emotional Health of RARE Disease Patients including the support resources and tools available to help you thrive. Allison was recently profiled as a Rare Leader and you can learn more about her here.
