Don't Miss the Syringe Services Programs Webinar July 30

Viral Hepatitis Updates from the HHS Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy

Dear Colleague,
Next Tuesday, July 30, the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health will host a webinar highlighting the unprecedented support across HHS for syringe services programs (SSPs). Decades of research show that comprehensive SSPs offer a safe, cost-effective approach to reducing transmission of certain infectious diseases, including hepatitis C and HIV, and connecting people to needed substance use disorder treatment and a range of essential services including overdose prevention.

During the webinar, key federal partners will describe how HHS agencies and grantees work to support SSPs including ADM Brett Giroir, Assistant Secretary for health and Senior Adviser for Opioid Policy, and RADM Jonathan Mermin, Director of CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. As laid out in the National Viral Hepatitis Action Plan , successful response to viral hepatitis relies on collaboration between a variety of stakeholders. Syringe service programs are an important focus for partners and coalitions working to address the opioid crisis and infectious diseases.

We are thrilled with the strong interest we have seen in this webinar and we want everyone to join. To ensure that as many people as possible can participate, please consider watching together with your partners as a group. Plan a watch party at your organization and join as a group so you can discuss the resources and examples from the webinar and how you can use them! Learn more about the upcoming webinar and register yourself or your group through the link included in our recent blog.
