Research: Maternal smoking and high BMI disrupt thyroid gland development
In this study, authors collected thyroid glands and plasma samples from fetuses terminated in the second trimester. They showed that maternal smoking and high maternal BMI are associated with thyroid development and endocrine function in a sex-specific manner.
