Research: Modulation of immune response at birth and malaria risk

In a birth cohort, spontaneous production of innate immune biomarkers was significantly reduced in cord blood of infants exposed to malaria, indicating past placental malaria has an effect on the fetal immune system, influencing malaria susceptibility in the first year of life.
