In this issue: EVENTS & NEWS THEMATIC NETWORK NEWS HONORS and AWARDS SPECIAL INTEREST PROJECT RESEARCH EVENTS & NEWS Tulane University’s Prevention Research Center is offering a Health, Racism, and Communication Seminar Series with three presentations September 11–25, on communication skills for community organizers, neighborhood groups, and public health students, professionals, faculty, and researchers. Dartmouth’s Prevention Research Center will cohost the Tenth Annual C. Everett Koop, MD, Tobacco Treatment Conference: It’s Not Just Cigarettes Anymore on September 28, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. EST, to address the complexities of inhaled substances. Yale University’s  Prevention Research Center will host the 2019 Global Health and Innovation Conference April 13–14, 2019. The 16th annual global health and social entrepreneurship conference is the largest in the world, drawing 2,000 professionals and students from 50 states and more than 55 countries. THEMATIC NETWORK NEWS The Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network’s (CPCRN) Federally Qualified Health Care workgroup recently published “Use of Evidence-Based Interventions and Implementation Strategies to Increase Colorectal Cancer Screening in Federally Qualified Health Centers”  in the Journal of Community Health. The Tobacco Workgroup published “Challenges Implementing Lung Cancer Screening in Federally Qualified Health Centers” in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. HONORS and AWARDS The Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center’s Tabia Henry Akintobi, PhD, was appointed to the Georgia Governor’s Advisory Council on Childhood Obesity. The University of Washington Prevention Research Center (PRC) in conjunction with the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging, received a 2018 APEX Grand Award for Publication Excellence for Connecting with AAPIs About Dementia: An Action Guide for Service Providers. APEX stands for Award for Publication Excellence. The Action Guide was created by the University of Washington’s PRC as part of the CDC Healthy Brain Research Network for community-based organizations working to educate and empower Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities about dementia. The University of Washington PRC’s Dr. Peggy Hannon was awarded a 5-year $3.1 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to expand a workplace wellness program for smaller employers nationwide. Nuri Erkut Kucukboyaci, post-doctoral fellow at the Kessler Foundation, received a Switzer Research Fellowship grant for Pre-implementation of the Home-Based Self-Management and Cognitive Training Changes Lives (HOBSCOTCH) program to Improve Quality Of Life for Patients with Refractory Epilepsy. The Dartmouth College PRC—part of the MEW Network—will provide the training and technical assistance for the HOBSCOTCH program. CDC PRC SPECIAL INTEREST PROJECT RESEARCH A new report, Medical-Dental Integration in Public Health Settings: An Environmental Scan, was released from the University of Iowa PRC. This product was the final report from the CDC PRC’s Special Interest Projects Award. The CDC PRC staff recently published The Economic Value of Informal Caregiving for Persons With Dementia: Results From 38 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, 2015 and 2016 BRFSS in the American Journal of Public Health. Under a $936,000 Tipping Points grant from the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, a multidisciplinary research team led by Case Western Reserve University’s PRC will conduct a Modeling the Future of Food in Your Neighborhood study to promote better community health through more equitable food systems. The team includes researchers from Case Western Reserve University, The Ohio State University, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, as well as community stakeholders with expertise in community-based food systems, community and economic development, food security, health equity, and neighborhood action. Case Western Reserve University’s PRC for Healthy Neighborhoods has developed a training video series for Farmers’ Markets (FM) Tracks, a novel iOS application and web app created to manage, collect, and evaluate data from farmers’ markets in one central portal. The training video series for Farmers' Markets Tracks was designed to teach farmers’ market managers and staff how to use the app.
