Bigger CRISPR- Cas12a toolbox, wider genomic coverage and higher targeting efficiencies
Recently published research in Genome Biology identifies several new CRISPR-Cas12a loci, a type of CRISPR-Cas system for editing mammalian genomes. Here, two of the authors of the paper, Wei Li and Fei Teng, tell us about their research and how it enhances and expands the genome editing toolbox.
Within only a few years, a technology referred to as “CRISPR” has not only changed the way scientists make specific changes in DNA, but also the way people can think about treating diseases. Meanwhile, CRISPR-Cas systems in the microbial kingdom have hastened the emergence of new genome engineering toolboxes.
