Research shows that some commonly used chemicals, such as certain herbicides and pesticides, are associated with increased Parkinson’s disease (PD) risk. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is tasked with regulating chemicals like these that could impact public health, but a recently proposed rule would restrict the agency’s ability to do this job.
The rule would force the EPA to only consider studies where all the underlying raw data is publicly available. This would significantly limit the amount of research the agency could consider when regulating chemicals linked to PD, as many studies keep the personal health information of research participants confidential. And this rule could compromise patient privacy.
The EPA is accepting public comments on this rule until May 18. And we need your help. Contact them today, through regulations.gov, and ask them to revoke this harmful proposal!
