Keratoconus is a degenerative disorder of the eye which produces a thinning and steepening of the cornea and decreases visual acuity with consequent impact on quality of life. The etiology of keratoconus remains unclear although its pathophysiological mechanisms have been studied for a long time. There is an increasing focus on early detection and treatment on the clinical side in recent years. Research has been done to identify therapeutic strategies that can prevent progression and improve the underlying pathogenesis with long-term efficacy and safety.
This series aim to provide a platform for exchange of innovative ideas and to stimulate high quality research, as well as to disseminate accurate, useful and reliable information and cutting-edge knowledge on the latest developments and new prospects in etiology, diagnosis and treatment of keratoconus.
