New from CDC CDC Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) The CDC’s In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Success Estimator Tool will help estimate the chance of having a live birth using IVF — the most common type of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). This new tool can be used by patients and clinicians to enhance patient counseling and communication.       Is Twin Childbearing on the Decline? Twin Births in the United States, 2014–2018 Following more than three decades of increases, the twin birth rate declined 4% during 2014–2018, to the lowest rate in more than a decade, 32.6 twins per 1,000 total births in 2018. This report presents trends in twin childbearing overall for 1980–2018, and by maternal age, race and Hispanic origin, and state of residence for 2014–2018. Vaccinating Pregnant Women Influenza and whooping cough can be deadly, especially in a baby’s first few months of life. Vaccinating women against these diseases during each pregnancy helps protect both them and their babies. Studies show flu and whooping cough vaccines are very safe for pregnant women and developing babies. National Trends in Hepatitis C Infection by Opioid Use Disorder Status Among Pregnant Women at Delivery Hospitalization — United States, 2000–2015 Ecological studies link increases in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection to the U.S. opioid crisis. Opioid use disorder among pregnant women has increased; the majority of those with HCV infection have opioid use disorder. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States. Learn what breast cancer is, who is at high risk, and about symptoms, mammograms, diagnosis, and treatment for breast cancer. National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program To improve access to breast and cervical cancer screening, Congress passed the Breast and Cervical Cancer Mortality Prevention Act of 1990,external icon which directed CDC to create the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). Currently, the NBCCEDP funds 70 grantees–all 50 states, the District of Columbia, 6 U.S. territories, and 13 American Indian/Alaska Native tribes or tribal organizations.
