Changes to This Summary (07/27/2017)

The PDQ cancer information summaries are reviewed regularly and updated as new information becomes available. This section describes the latest changes made to this summary as of the date above.
Added text about an analysis of 36,793 women from the Women's Health Initiative cohort whose weight was measured at baseline and 3-year follow-up and was combined with self-reported intentionally of weight loss that showed an association between intentional weight loss of 10 pounds or more and lower endometrial cancer incidence (cited Luo et al. as reference 58).
Added text to state that both of these analyses share substantial limitations; with such small numbers of cases and the potential for residual confounding, the contradictory results of these two analyses suggest that there is scant evidence to conclude that weight loss is protective for endometrial cancer.
This summary is written and maintained by the PDQ Screening and Prevention Editorial Board, which is editorially independent of NCI. The summary reflects an independent review of the literature and does not represent a policy statement of NCI or NIH. More information about summary policies and the role of the PDQ Editorial Boards in maintaining the PDQ summaries can be found on the About This PDQ Summary and PDQ® - NCI's Comprehensive Cancer Database pages.
