​​​​​​​In this review paper, Nichols et al. give an overview of how the human microbiome interacts with the human body, its impact on certain diseases, and its effects on drug metabolism. They break the microbiome up into four major areas (oral, vaginal, skin, and intestine) and discuss how each region either benefits the host, either worsens or alleviates certain diseases, or interacts with certain drugs used to treat disease.
