Recent studies on the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have discovered that these virus particles can bind to the alveolar pneumocytes of humans through their interaction with the angiotensin I converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) surface receptor.
