A nanometer is a billionth of a meter (the head of a pin is about a million nanometers across). Nanoscale materials and devices can interact readily, and in novel ways, with biomolecules both on the surface and inside of cells. The images collected here as part of the 2017 NCI Cancer Close Up project amplify NCI-supported research into how nanotechnology can improve the way cancer is studied, detected, prevented, and treated.
