African American stakeholders help to perfect the APOLLO study

African Americans who either donated a kidney, received a kidney donation, are on dialysis awaiting a kidney transplant or have a close relative in one of those categories are helping to perfect the APOLLO study (short for APOL1 Long-Term Kidney Transplantation Outcomes Network) which aims to improve outcomes after kidney transplantation.

NUP160 genetic mutation linked to steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome

According to new research published by Zhe Han, Ph.D., mutations in the NUP160 gene, which encodes one protein component of the nuclear pore complex nucleoporin 160 kD, are involved in steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. Mutations in this gene have not previously been associated with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome.
