Thursday, June 6, 2019 Chimp Adenovirus Vectored Vaccine 100% Effective Against Nipah Virus in Hamster Study An experimental Nipah virus vaccine that uses a chimpanzee adenovirus for delivery was 100% effective in protecting hamsters against the two subtypes of Nipah virus, Bangladesh and Malaysia. NIAID scientists and colleagues from the Jenner Institute at Oxford University published the findings Thursday in PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases. The vaccine vector – ChAdOx1 – is being used as a platform against several types of viruses, such as Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus and Ebola virus; some already are in clinical trials. The new study tested single-dose and prime-boost vaccine methods, both of which were effective at preventing disease. The researchers plan to next test the vaccine in nonhuman primates.
